About Boise State University

Boise State University is a public university located near the downtown area of Boise City, in Idaho State. It was founded in 1932, by the Episcopal Church, being relocated in 1940 from St. Margaret's Hall to its current location. In 1965, the institution gained the 4-yaer status and began awarding baccalaureate degrees. The university status was granted in 1974 and Boise State College turned into Boise State University.

Over the years, BSU has grown, having an enrollment of more than 70 000 living-on-campus students, offering more than 200 degrees in 190 fields of study, ranging from doctoral programs to technical certifications.

The U.S. News & World Report ranked the university among the `top 100 Masters Universities in the United States`, and with a total enrollment of nearly 19 000 students, BSU also earned its title of the largest institution of higher education in Idaho state.

BSU is divided into 8 colleges which are: College of Arts and Sciences, College of Business and Economics, College of Education, College of Engineering, College of Graduate Studies, College of Health Sciences and College of Social Sciences and Public Affairs.

The athletic teams that are representing BSU in various intercollegiate championships are known as the Broncos, their home games being played on campus, at the Bronco Stadium. Since 1999, they have won 8 conference titles, as well as 5 wins in 8 bowl appearances. In 2006, Broncos have won WAC Championship, bringing Coach Chris Petersen the Paul `Bear` Bryant Award and the title of the best head coach of the same year, in the nation.

The list of notable people from BSU contains names like: Dr. Robert Kustra, who is the university's president and former Lieutenant Governor of Illinois, Steve Appleton, chairman and CEO of Micron Technology, as well as former player on the Broncos tennis team in the 1980's, the Appleton Tennis Center on the BSU campus being named after him, Orlando Jordan, former WWE wrestler and 4-time all American of BSU, and Michael Hoffman, who is a BSU former basketball player and a current Hollywood movie director.
